Welcome to our next instalment of interviews with our stallholders! Today we meet Karen from Pure Wix.
Hi Karen, thanks for joining us on the blog today!
Can you tell us a bit about what you do, your work and how you started your business?
I started my business for my own benefit as I had done a lot of research in to how bad for us and the environment normal paraffin wax candles are - I wanted to create something for myself - this then lead to giving them to friends and work colleagues who, after telling me what an amazing product they were, began to ask if they could buy them. My beautician also offered to sell them at her salon and I soon began to get a regular customer base.
Where do you sell your work?
I currently sell at Markets, craft fairs, Pop up Shops, through my beautician at her salon, on my website www.wixcandles.co.uk, Etsy - PureWixEcoCandles, Born-Eco, NuMonday, Instagram and I sell off old stock on my e-bay shop.
What is your favourite item you have made?
I am obviously proud of the first candles I made but I am very pleased with my wax melts - people had been asking about them but I was reluctant as I knew that people would have to use traditional paraffin wax tealights so I have managed to find 100% rapeseed wax tealights with fully compostable cups and all with no plastic clamshells!
And what is your best seller?
My large Eastern Rose & Oud candle alongside the Lime, Basil and Mandarin - at Christmas it is definately my Frankinsence and Mhyrr.
What is your life motto?
Take time to see what is around you and do whatever you can to care for the planet - there is so much beauty that we miss in our busy lives.
'I Shop Local' is our motto - where are your favourite places to shop locally?
I love my local farm shop where everything is seasonal, the local butcher and the Farmers market for sausages.
We love having you at the Pop Up - when are you next selling with us at the Pop Up Emporium?
I've been taking part in their Virtual Pop Up Markets whilst Hastings based Markets are postponed.
And lastly, where can we find your work online?
Instagram @Pure.Wix
Etsy - PureWixEcoCandles
As well as Born-Eco, NuMonday and I have just applied to sell on British Craft House!
Thank you Karen! Is there anything else you would like to share with our Pop Up readers?
We are offering 15% discount on your first purchase at our website and we strongly encourage recycling - so bring back your empty jars and we'll give you £1.00 off your next purchase - I can't wait to get back out there and talk to everyone face to face again.
